It is sad that discussions over the Internet can magnify the ugly part of human nature. Feelings get hurt, so the injured party has to fire back with an even nastier retort. We all get caught up in that from time to time.
Unfortunately, Cohn's stock-in-trade with Tweeting QC news is almost always intended to irritate rather than inform. I'm not knocking Cohn personally. I think he did a great service telling QC fans this past season that Club 9 was skimping on payroll. We should demand better from them. The Mallards staff deserves to get paid, pure and simple.
Somehow I doubt that Cohn cares whether justice is truly being served. He just likes the idea of QC fans having to defend the indefensible...because he knows some QC fans will do precisely that. It's simply a game for him, and it's unfortunate.
On the flip side, the Mallards have fans who do nothing but throw barbs at the Komets. Instead of acknowledging Fort Wayne has worked hard to bring a quality product to their fans, they invent all kinds of bizarre contortions to diminish the Komets' great achievements. That, too, has become a game for certain QC posters who are trying to out-Cohn Justin Cohn.
I really try to strike an even balance on this stuff. I love the Mallards dearly, but I'm not going to make excuses for crap that shouldn't be happening. We've had too much of that in recent seasons. I also appreciate the Komets' continued success, because it surely hasn't been handed to them. They've earned it every step of the way. However, so-called journalists like Cohn are more interested in hotdogging and intimidating the opposition than they are at being good, objective sportswriters. Any reasonable person can see that much is true.
