Tempe, AZ - The Central Hockey League announced today that Justin Bowers of the Allen Americans has won the Oakley Three Stars Award for the month of January/2010 totaling 15 point during the month.
Bowers, 24, continued his outstanding season in January by earning first star honors three times and totaling 14 points (4-10=14) in 10 games played. The Halifax, Nova Scotia recently had a stint in the American Hockey League with the Abbotsford Heat (the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames). His most recent game in the CHL was January 23, a 5-1 win versus Bossier-Shreveport, where he notched a Americans franchise record and CHL single-game season high five assists. On the season, Bowers is tied for eighth in the CHL with 54 points (17-37=54) and is carrying a +15 plus/minus rating.
In the season standings, Missouri's Jeff Christian leads the way with 45 points with Bowers closely behind with 40 points. Rapid City's Les Reaney rounds out the top three with 37 points.
Players earn five points for a number one star, three points for a second star nod and one point for being named third star.
