Amarillo, TX - Tuesday, the Amarillo Gorillas and Head Coach Tom Coolen were proud to announce Brett McConnachie as the seventh player under contract for the team in 2008-09. McConnachie played the final three months of the regular season with the team, scoring eight points in 32 games with Amarillo.
McConnachie also spent time with the Oklahoma City Blazers and the Fresno Falcons during the 2007-08 season. His first professional season came after four years with the University of Alabama-Huntsville-he led the Chargers to their first-ever NCAA Division I playoff berth during his senior season.
The 5'11", 200-pound product of Ajax, Ontario scored three goals for the Gorillas in 2008-09. The first of the trio came during his first multi-point affair as a professional versus Wichita on January 25, 2008. His other two goals were power play tallies, one coming in a 5-4 victory against Arizona 2/13/08, and the second coming on his birthday (March 1st) against Odessa.
"Speaking to Brett, I think he will come in to camp with a little better idea of what it takes to make a good professional hockey player after one year," said Coolen. "He's going to be in great shape...he was a top scorer at the collegiate level and he will be given the chance to do the same in Amarillo."
