Prescott Valley, AZ - Arizona Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro announced today that forward Chad Hinz is out for the remainder of the season after sustaining a fractured vertebrae during the team's game versus the Rapid City Rush on February 6.
Hinz left the ice in the first period and was taken by ambulance to Yavapai Regional Medical Center's East Campus before being airlifted to Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix.
"Chad's in stable condition," said Pietroniro, who is in Phoenix with the veteran forward. "He has full range of motion in all of his limbs and is expected to leave the hospital in the next few days. He has a long recovery ahead of him."
The 30-year-old Hinz recorded 11 points (3g/8a) in eight games with the Sundogs this season after being acquired in a trade with the expansion Missouri Mavericks on January 20. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound forward averaged a point per game this season tallying 12 goals, 28 assists, 21 penalty minutes (PIM) and a plus-4 rating in 40 contests.
Hinz has collected 99 points (31g/68a), 62 PIM and is plus-11 in 97 career regular season CHL contests with the Oklahoma City Blazers, Mavericks and Sundogs and has added five goals, 17 assists and 22 PIM in 20 CHL playoff games with the Blazers.
A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, he was originally selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the seventh round (187th overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
