Bloomington, IL - Bloomington PrairieThunder captain Jon Booras was named the Player of the Week by the International Hockey League, it was announced Monday.
Booras scored eight points with a plus-5 rating on three goals and five assists to help the PrairieThunder earn four of a possible six points with two victories in three games. He started the week with the fifth hat trick in franchise history in a 7-3 victory over Quad City at home Tuesday.
The 27-year-old Booras scored two even-strength goals and one short-handed tally. He added an assist to give him his first four-point night of the campaign. The Billings (Montana) native added three assists in a 5-4 overtime victory at Flint and one assist in a 6-3 loss at Muskegon.
Booras is currently riding a four-game point streak, scoring three goals with eight assists during the span. He has taken over the team lead in scoring from Craig Macdonald with 44 points on 17 goals and 27 assists. Booras ranks fourth in the league in scoring.
The IHL honor marked the fifth time a PrairieThunder player has been recognized this season. Macdonald has earned the award twice, while Andrew Martin and former goalie Paulo Colaiacovo have earned the league’s top Goalie of the Week award.
Bloomington returns to action Wednesday with a 7:05 p.m. contest at U.S. Cellular Coliseum against Dayton. The Gems trail the PrairieThunder by two points in the standings for fourth place.
