Bloomington, IL - The Bloomington PrairieThunder hockey
team's roster grew by four Tuesday as coach Jarrod Skalde announced the
signing of veteran defensemen Jason Slusher and Nello Ferrara along
with rookie goaltender Ryan Ludzik and rookie left winger Adam Tomkow.
Ludzik, the son of former Chicago Blackhawks
center Steve Ludzik, earned the Russell Masterson Memorial Trophy as
the Most Valuable Player in the Greater Ontario Golden Horseshoe Junior
League last year with the Niagara Falls Canucks.
The
19-year-old Ludzik posted a 23-9-5 record in 37 games of the team's 49
games. He also had a 5-6 record in the playoffs. During the regular
season, the 5-foot-10, 165-pound Ludzik had a 2.98 goals against
percentage and a .921 save percentage.
Before returning
home to play with the Canucks, Ludzik played for two seasons with Erie
of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. His father, Steve, played with the
Blackhawks from 1981-89.
Ferrara, a native of Chicago who
still resides there, split time between Kalamazoo and Flint last
season. The 32-year-old journeyman defender began his career with
Rockford in 2003 in the United Hockey League.
The 5-11,
195-pound Ferrara also has played with Kansas City in the UHL;
Bakersfield and Toledo in the ECHL; and Fayetteville of the Southern
Professional League. He has played 60 games in his pro career.
Slusher
saw action in 53 games last season with the Rio Grande Valley Killer
Bees of the CHL. He scored two goals and had 10 assists for 12 points.
The
6-2, 212-pounder began his pro career with the Pee Dee Cyclones of the
SPHL in 2006. He had two goals and 19 assists for 21 points in 53
games. The 26-year-old Slusher hails from Bel Air, Maryland.
Tomkow
has played the last four years in the Alberta Junior Hockey League,
playing in 209 games. The 21-year-old St. Albert, Alberta native scored
34 goals with 69 assists for 103 points in his junior career.
The
6-1, 195-pound lefthander had his best season last year with the Olds
Grizzlys, scoring 15 goals with 35 assists for 50 points in 51 games.
Per team policy, terms of the player's contracts were not released.
