Rosemont, IL - The Chicago Wolves have named JASON CHRISTIE the team's new assistant coach.

The Gibbons, Alberta, native, most recently served as head coach and director of hockey operations for the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies from 2005 to 2008. CHRISTIE took the helm of the Grizzlies in the franchise's inaugural year, and constructed the expansion team from scratch before leading the club to a winning record and a playoff berth in its first season.

Overall, he has compiled a 307-203-48-6-12 record and .590 winning percentage in 576 games as a head coach in the ECHL, which includes three seasons with Utah and five with the Peoria Rivermen. CHRISTIE has led teams to six postseason appearances in eight years, which includes helping the Grizzlies to the conference finals in 2008.

"As a player, Jason was an extremely fiery competitor and he has brought that same desire and intensity to the bench as a coach," said Wolves General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff. "The addition of Jason to our staff of Don Granato, Wendell Young and Kenny McCudden gives the Wolves one of the most diverse and experienced coaching staffs in the AHL."

The 39-year-old departed the Rivermen as the winningest head coach in franchise history, posting a 217-101-42 record and .661 winning percentage from 2000 to 2005. The team earned four playoff berths in five years under his tutelage, including a conference final appearance in his first campaign as head coach.

A veteran of 216 American Hockey League games, the former right wing posted 87 assists, 129 points and 314 penalty minutes in five seasons of AHL action with the Hamilton Canucks (1992-94) and Portland Pirates (1994-98). CHRISTIE also skated in the International Hockey League as a member of the Manitoba Moose (1996-98) and Milwaukee Admirals (1999-00) and spent time in the ECHL with the Columbus Chill (1991-93; 1998-99), Charlotte Checkers (1993-94) and Peoria Rivermen (1999-00).

During his final season as a player, CHRISTIE was a member of the 1999-2000 Kelly Cup Champion Peoria Rivermen squad, led by Wolves Head Coach DON GRANATO. He assumed the coaching duties in Peoria the following year when GRANATO left to coach in the AHL.

In accordance with team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
