Wiley Named CHL Director of Hockey Operations

Phoenix, AZ - Central Hockey League (CHL) Commissioner Duane Lewis announced today that Jim Wiley has been named the CHL's Director of Hockey Operations. The veteran of more than 25 years in professional hockey in various capacities will join the CHL front office staff on Monday, September 8th.

CHL 2008-09 Regular Season Schedule Released

Phoenix, AZ - The 2008-09 Central Hockey League (CHL) schedule has been announced, with the 512-game season beginning on Friday, October 17th in seven locations, and concluding on Saturday, March 21st with eight contests. Each of the CHL's 16 member clubs will play a 64 game schedule with 32 games at home and on the road. Just over 75% of the games will take place on Fridays (33.9%), Saturdays (35.1%) or Sundays (6.3%).

CHL Extends Partnership with Sher-Wood

Phoenix, AZ - The Central Hockey League (CHL), in conjunction with Sher-Wood, announced today that the two companies have extended their partnership for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. The agreement keeps the Sherbrooke, Quebec based company as the "Official Equipment Supplier" of the CHL and the exclusive stick, pant and glove supplier to the league. The CHL and Sher-Wood originally partnered in the spring of 2004.

CHL Unveils 'The Center of Hockey'

Tempe, AZ - The Central Hockey League (CHL) introduced today its new brand slogan unveiling ‘The Center of Hockey' and its accompanying logo. The logo and brand philosophy was originally introduced at the league's recently completed Summer Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

Lewis Named CHL Commisioner

Tempe, AZ - The Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that Duane Lewis, who formerly served as Senior Vice President of Operations for the past eight seasons, has been named CHL Commissioner. Lewis had been serving as the interim leader for the CHL during the 2007-08 season after previous Commissioner Brad Treliving departed in July/2007 to become the Assistant General Manager with the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes.

Scapinello Inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame

Tempe, AZ - The Central Hockey League (CHL) is pleased to have a member of its family inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as former NHL linesman and current CHL Officiating Supervisor Ray Scapinello was named as a member of the Hall's class of 2008. The veteran official of 33 seasons joins Glenn Anderson, Igor Larionov and Ed Chynoweth in the current class.

2008-09 CHL Operational Issues Determined

Tempe, AZ - The Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced several operational issues that were determined and ratified by the CHL Board of Governors at meetings recently completed at the CHL's Summer Conference that took place at the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in Phoenix, Arizona. The determined issues include divisional alignment and playoff format among other things.

Participating Teams for 2008-09 CHL Season Announced

Tempe, AZ - The Central Hockey League today announced the 15 participating teams that will compete in the league's 17th season beginning on Friday, October 17th, 2008. The 2007-08 season saw 2,313,950 fans go through the turnstiles during the regular season and playoffs and culminated with the Arizona Sundogs winning the CHL's Ray Miron President's Cup in just their second season.
