Columbus, GA - The SPHL held a dispersal draft Monday, May 5 in which the rights of players belonging to the Jacksonville Barracudas were dished out to the six remaining SPHL teams. Jacksonville's franchise requested a one-year suspension of operations last week, and should the team rejoin the league in 2009-2010, the rights of these players will go back to the Jacksonville Barracudas.
The draft order reflected the 2007-08 regular season standings in reverse, with seventh-place Huntsville getting first pick, followed by Columbus, Twin City, Richmond, Fayetteville and Knoxville.
With the second overall pick, Cottonmouths head coach Jerome Bechard picked up defenseman Andrew Morris. Morris spent two seasons with the Jacksonville Barracudas, picking up 52 points in 77 games played. He also had a stint with the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL in 2007-08, where he played nine games before returning to the Barracudas.
In the second round, the Snakes picked up forward Rob Colangelo. The 5'7" forward put up 48 points in 52 games with the 'Cudas last season.
