Tempe, AZ - The Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that the Corpus Christi Rayz franchise has been sold and as a result will remain in the Corpus Christi market and will be a part of the CHL's 17th season beginning this fall. It was previously announced (June 2nd, 2008) that the Rayz would not participate in the 2008-09 season because the team was voluntarily suspending operations but during the course of the next seven days, details were agreed upon to transfer ownership of the team to local businessman Tim Lange.
"We are extremely pleased to see the Rayz participate in the upcoming season and beyond," said Rick Kozuback, President and CEO of Global Entertainment Corporation (AMEX: GEE), which operates the CHL through one of its subsidiary companies. "Tim (Lange) is an outstanding member of the South Texas community and his involvement with and commitment to the Rayz is a great sight to see for the fans of Rayz hockey and the entire CHL. He will be a great addition to our ownership fraternity."
Corpus Christi will be entering their 11th season and in their 10 previous years have combined for a 291-297-66 record. The Rayz will participate in the 2008 CHL Summer Conference beginning this week in Phoenix, Arizona.
The team's previous owner, Doug Frank, had owned the franchise since 2002 and was a pioneer in the WPHL and CHL for the past 10 years.
"We have had a great relationship with Doug (Frank) over the decade and his accomplishment and contributions to the league will not go unnoticed," said Kozuback. "The countless hours he has put in over the past months to secure this sale will see that hockey on the gulf coast will continue."
