Corpus Christi, TX - The Corpus Christi IceRays announced a key offensive addition today signing three-time CHL All-Star John McNabb for the 2008-09 season. The forward is coming off an outstanding 2007-08 campaign in the ECHL and is annually among the scoring leaders in whatever league he plays.
The Calgary native has scored 241 goals with 300 assists (541 points) in 596 career games seeing action in the CHL, ECHL, AHL as well as a short stint in Germany. In three previous seasons in the CHL (2004-05, 2005-06 & 2006-07) he scored 189 points (91-98=189) in 174 career games, all with the Austin Ice Bats. McNabb was named to the CHL Southern Conference All-Star team during each of his three seasons with the Bats.
"We are very happy to have John (McNabb) on our team," said Pat Dunn, IceRays General Manager. "Along with being a proven leader and a great goal scorer, John is a work horse not only in games but in practice. Last season I got to watch John regularly in Beaumont and his skill set and competitiveness is evident each and every shift."
Last season with the Texas Wildcatters (ECHL), the 6-1, 195-pound winger led the team to a 52-9-4-7 record and tied for the league-lead with 115 points (tied with eventual ECHL Champion Cincinnati). Individually, he ranked among the league leaders with 82 points (6th), 32 goals (tied for 10th) and 50 assists (tied for 6th). The 30-year-old also added 13 power play goals and was a +20 (plus/minus rating).
"I'm excited about the opportunity to play in Corpus Christi," said McNabb. "During all my years with Austin it was always a great rivalry and I gained a lot of respect for the IceRays fans. I think with the team that is being put together that we will be a force in the division and conference."
