Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers have acquired defenseman Joe Van Culin from the Fresno Falcons in exchange for forward Grant Goeckner-Zoeller, head coach Bill McDonald announced today.

Van Culin had a career-high 21 assists last season with the Falcons to go along with 4 goals in 65 games. He played six games in the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs, tallying a pair of helpers.

"I've got high hopes for my second professional season," Van Culin said. "Contributing offensively and improving my numbers will help the Bombers achieve the ultimate goal of making a run at a Kelly Cup championship."

Van Culin played four years for the Ferris State University Bulldogs in the CCHA, skating in 134 games and totaling 34 points (10g,24a). The Monticello, Minnesota native was whistled for 159 PIM.

He was a three-time letter winner and two-time Academic Award honoree as a Bulldog. Following his senior season he was invited to compete in the NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge, winning the fastest skater competition.

"Joe's skating ability is phenomenal and he will be a strong asset to the team's defensive unit," coach McDonald said.

In a separate transaction, the Bombers have traded forward Ryan MacGregor to the newest member of the ECHL, the Ontario Reign, for future considerations.
