Dayton, OH - Dayton Bombers Head Coach Bill McDonald announced today the signing of defenseman Jim Henkemeyer for the 2008-09 season. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Henkemeyer, a 23-year-old native of St. Cloud, Minnesota, rejoins the Bombers roster after skating in 13 regular season games and picking up two goals and three assists for five points. Henkemeyer also appeared in both of the Bombers' North Division Quarterfinal playoff games against the Johnstown Chiefs.
"When Jim came in late in the season he was an excellent addition on the ice," coach McDonald said. "He's got great vision and was a part of some key power play and penalty killing units for us down the stretch."
The 5-foot-11-inch, 195-pound defenseman played collegiate hockey at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where he amassed 68 points (18g,50a) in 95 career games. Henkemeyer had a breakout senior season in 2007-08 that included career bests in assists (24) and points (28). He was a two-time First-Team All-American.
"I've been working hard all summer and this year I'm going to take it game-by-game, practice-by-practice to improve," Henkemeyer said. "I want to be a solid defenseman that my team can rely on in crucial situations."
Henkemeyer played junior hockey with the Minnesota Blizzard and Bismarck Bobcats of the NAHL prior to joining the University of Wisconsin.
