Flint, MI - A man known for his steady work as a defenseman and his
punishing body checks will be back in uniform for the Flint Generals for
the 08-09 season.
The Generals, proud member of the IHL, announced today the signing of
defenseman Martin Ondrej who posted 4 goals and 21 assists for 25 points
and 130 penalty minutes and a plus/minus +8 in 67 games. The Presov,
Slovakia native played in four Turner Cup playoff games before he fell to
injury, collecting 4 penalty minutes and had a plus/minus of +1. In mid
January Martin Ondrej was named the IHL Defenseman of the Week for his
steady play.
It will be the third season in a Generals uniform for Ondrej who has
become an extremely popular player with the fans. In his rookie 06-07
campaign, the 6-foot, one-inch, 205 pound defender played in all 76 games
for the Generals. He had 5 goals and 22 assists for 27 points and a 162
penalty minutes.
"Having Marty back with the Generals this season gives our blue line a big
boost", says Head Coach Peter South. "Ondrej is the type of player the
forces opposing forwards to be accountable. If you come into our zone and
try and dangle the puck when Marty is on the ice you'll very quickly find
yourself on the seat of your pants looking up at the ceiling".
