Flint, MI - One of the Flint Generals on ice leaders from this past season will be back in uniform this fall. The Generals announced today that they have re-signed veteran center Greg Bullock to a contract. He notched 16 goals and 35 assists for 51 points in 48 games.
“Greg's contributions to the team are not just limited to goals and assists,” said Head Coach Peter South. “He possesses the character and dedication, both on and off the ice, that is a prerequisite required by your veterans to not only lead, but lead by example.”
Director of Hockey Operations Ron Sanko echoed Bullock's leadership and character qualities.
“Greg brings character, leadership, and work ethic to our team,” Sanko said. “He carries himself as an all around professional both on and off the ice. We are proud to have him back in the Generals line up again this year.”
During the 2008 Turner Cup playoffs, Bullock had several multi-point games and was able to collect two goals and six assists for eight points and two minutes in penalties in five games. Bullock was chosen as the National City IHL Player of the Week for outstanding play during the first week of January for the Generals when he picked up four goals and four assists for eight points in three games. Two of those games were back-to-back wins.
“I am happy for two reasons: one, it's July, and I have a new deal new place and I know where I am going,” he said. “The second reason is that it's close to home and if need be my family or I need to go home that it is taken care of for me. I had the time off when I needed it and my family appreciated that. When I came back to the rink it was all hockey and it helped me better focus that way too.”
Bullock said he knows that the Generals were close to winning it all last year and the team is headed in a great direction already this summer.
“We had the team on paper last year on paper which was a huge bonus,” he said. “I think we are going to have that again. I think getting the right mix and balance will be no. 2 objective. If we accomplish that then it is as important as getting the skilled players.”
This will be the Cambridge Ontario native's 14th season as a professional that has spanned the former IHL, as well as the American Hockey League, West Coast Hockey League, United Hockey League and Central Hockey League. He has also played overseas in Italy, England and Germany.
The 5-foot, 11-inch 180-pound left-shooting forward has played in 766 professional games, earning 244 goals and 504 assists for 748 points and 808 penalty minutes.
