Flint, MI - One of the Flint Generals tough and gritty forwards from this past season will be back in the fold this fall.
The Generals of the International Hockey League announced today (Tuesday) that they have re-signed John DiPace. The Clinton Township Michigan native had 24 goals and 31 assists for 55 points in 70 games. He led the team in penalty minutes with 238 and his 24 goals were the second highest in his career.
"Re-signing John was a priority for us," said Head Coach Peter South. "He's the type of player who you hate to play against because he goes 100 per cent every shift. He scores key goals and is one of our top point producers. He's versatile and can play in all situations."
During the 2008 Turner Cup Playoffs, DiPace was one of the Generals top players, notching four goals and two assists for 6 points in five games. Three of his four goals during the post season were important, including a shorthanded marker in game 2 that gave Flint a late 5-4 win over the Icehawks. In the fifth game of the series, with the Generals trailing 3-1 and on the brink of elimination, DiPace scored a key goal to rally the troops that eventually forced overtime.
This will be DiPace's fourth season with the Generals and in 219 previous games he has earned 60 goals and 87 assists for 147 points and 551 penalty minutes. The 5 foot, 11-inch 190 right shooting forward spent two seasons away from his native Michigan. He played for the former Richmond Riverdogs in the UHL and then in suburban Denver with the Rocky Mountain Rage of the Central Hockey League. In those two seasons he had a combined 46 goals and 56 assists for 102 points and 387 penalty minutes in 136 games.
