Flint, MI - The Flint Generals of the
International Hockey League announced today that they have renewed
their affiliation agreement with the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings.
Under the new affiliation agreement, the Generals will be given spots in the 2008-2009 main Detroit Red Wings training camp in Traverse City.
"We're happy to renew our affiliation with the Stanley Cup Champions,' said Director of Hockey Operations Ron Sanko.
Defensemen
Martin Ondrej and Kyle Deck will be attending this year's Wings camp.
Last season Nick Tuzzolino and Brett Westgarth represented the Generals
in Traverse City.
The Generals were able to have two players
called up to the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Red Wings American Hockey
League affiliate, last season. Forward Josef Fojtik was called up on
numerous occasions to the Griffins during the 2007-2008 season and the
affiliation also helped the comeback of forward darren McCarty, who began with the Generals in early January and later moved up to the Griffins before returning to the Red Wings.
"We
are very honored to be affiliated with the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit
Red Wings," said The Perani Group Managing Partner Brandon Bordeaux. "I
think this is a huge step in the future of Flint Professional hockey."
The
Generals also announced today that they have released a new logo for
the 08-09 season which combines both the original 'G logo' and the new
'Arrowhead logo.' The new logo has the 'G-logo' embedded inside and the
word Generals is reversed in blue color. The Generals will also
continue to honor the tradition of the original 'G-logo', one of the
longest utilized and most popular logos in North America by using it as
a secondary logo.
"The Perani Group developed the modernized the
logo that combines the old logo with the new arrowhead logo," said
Bordeaux. "We have already been getting calls with fans wanting to get
new merchandise with the new logo on it."
