Flint, MI - Two of the Flint Generals up and coming players from last season will be back in uniform this fall. The Generals of the IHL announced today that they have re-signed forward Josef Fojtik and defenseman Kyle Deck to contracts.
Fojtik has an outstanding professional debut in North America and excited the crowd with his dashing rushes up the ice. In 63 games with the Generals, the Ostrava Czech Republic native notched 28 goals and 21 assists for 49 points and 68 penalty minutes.
His solid play was also noticed by the American Hockey League where he was called up by Grand Rapids Griffins. In 13 games he posted two assists and 12 penalty minutes.
"As many fans saw last year, Josef is a dynamic young player with an abundance of speed and skill," said Director of Hockey Operations Ron Sanko. "We look forward to the excitement he will bring to our team this year."
"Josef is a young player who brings a lot of enthusiasm to the game", said Head Coach Peter South.
"Obviously his speed and skill are his biggest assets, but as the season went on he learned to assert himself more from a physical standpoint. His continuous development of his skills and a physical game should make him a top player in our league."
Fojtik played two seasons in North America in junior hockey in the NAHL, QMHHL and the USHL with the Pittsburgh Forge, Victoriaville Tigres and the Danville Wings.
The 5-foot 11-inch 187 pound left winger has played more than 137 professional games in Europe in his home country of the Czech Republic and notched 111 points.
The Generals also added defenseman Kyle Deck who will begin his first full season of professional hockey. Deck was signed as an amateur near the end of the 2007-2008 season and he posted one assist in eight games.
"Kyle brings many of the abilities that Brett Westgarth brought to our team last year," Sanko said.
"He is strong, mobile and mature defenseman that also has leadership qualities. A captain of his WHL Jr. team along with his play with us last year indicates to us that Kyle will be a valuable member of our team this fall."
"Kyle proved during his time last season that he is destined to be a quality blue-liner at the pro level", echoed Head Coach South.
"He plays a smart, smooth game, doesn't get rattled when he's out there, and has the ability to generate some offence from the back end".
Deck, a native of Sedley, Saskatchewan spent five seasons with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League where in 266 games, he notched 25 goals 79 assists for 104 points and 310 penalty minutes.
