Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs, American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens, announced today that the club's 2008 training camp will be held at Mile One Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland from Monday, September 29th through Sunday, October 5th 2008.

In preparation for their 13th season in Hamilton, the Bulldogs will also host North Division rivals the Manitoba Moose (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks) and the Toronto Marlies (AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) in a pre-season tournament at Mile One Centre.

“In preparing for the 2008-2009 season, we had discussions with the Toronto Marlies and the Manitoba Moose about playing a three-team pre-season tournament, initially in Northern Ontario”, said Hamilton Bulldogs President and Governor Glenn Stanford. “We were then approached by St. John's Sports and Entertainment Ltd. who proposed that we hold training camp and host a pre-season tournament at Mile One Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland. After reviewing their proposal, all three teams decided that it was not only a viable option, but also a wonderful opportunity for our coaches, players and staff to return to a city and province that strongly supported an AHL team for 14 years.”

“St. John's Sports and Entertainment is delighted to be playing host to Hamilton Bulldogs training camp and four American Hockey League pre-season games at Mile One Centre in the fall of 2008”, stated St. John's Sports & Entertainment Ltd. Board of Directors Chairman Gerry Smith. “This event is part of our strategic plan to bring AHL hockey back to St. John's, Newfoundland.”

The four-game round robin tournament, which will feature the AHL's three Canadian-based franchises, will commence on Thursday, October 2nd with a contest between the Manitoba Moose and the Toronto Marlies. The tournament's second game will take place on Friday, October 3rd when the Hamilton Bulldogs will battle the Toronto Marlies. The third and final game of the round robin is set for Saturday, October 4th when the Hamilton Bulldogs will meet the Manitoba Moose. Following the round robin, the top two teams will advance to the tournament's championship game, which is scheduled for Sunday, October 5th.
