Rochester, MI - The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Thursday the hiring of attorney David R. Grand as the league's new legal counsel after Ron Caron resigned to pursue other opportunities internally with his current law firm. Grand is a principal at Miller, Canfield, Paddock & Stone, P.L.C., and is based in the firm's Ann Arbor, Michigan office.

"We are very happy to welcome David to the IHL," stated Paul L. Pickard, IHL President/CEO. "His experience with the sports industry makes him a great addition to our team. On behalf of the IHL, we would like to thank Ron Caron for his dedication and hard work over the past ten years."

Grand graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 1998. A large part of his commercial litigation practice has involved representing national intercollegiate and high school athletic associations in promulgating and defending their rules and regulations, and protecting their governance authority. Prior to joining Miller Canfield, Grand clerked for the Honorable Bernard A. Friedman, Chief United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan. Grand also has a background in business and was a C.P.A. before attending law school.

"I am thrilled for this great opportunity," stated Grand. "It is an exciting time for the league and I am very happy to be a part of it. I am going to do my best to help the league achieve all of its goals."

Grand lives in Ann Arbor with his wife, Julie, and their daughter, Madeline.

Grand will begin his new role as legal counsel immediately.
