Laredo, TX - The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Wednesday that they have signed rookie forward Joey Moggach for the 2008-09 season. Moggach comes to the Bucks after spending the last two seasons with Division I Bemidji State University (NCAA).
The Brandon, Manitoba native broke the 100-point mark in juniors, when he put up 118 points during the 2005-06 season with the MJHL's Dauphin Kings. Moggach's 118 points led the league in scoring, as he finished runner-up in the MJHL's MVP voting. That season Moggach scored 55 goals, handed out 63 assists in 63 games. 17 of Moggach's 55 goals that year were on the power-play.
Moggach was a standout with the Kings, as he was a five-time MJHL Player of the Week, and a one-time Player of the Month.
"Moggach can score, he proved that in juniors. I like what I hear about him", said Bucks Head Coach and General Manager Terry Ruskowski. "We are happy to get him here for training camp".
Last season with Bemidji Moggach scored two goals, with nine assists for 11 points in 28 games. In his two college seasons Moggach totaled six goals, with 25 assists for 31 points in 55 games.
Moggach, 5'7, 165 pounds, was named to the CHA All-Rookie team in his freshman year with the Beavers, as he broke the 20-point mark in 2006-07, scoring four goals, with 16 assists for 20 points. Moggach's 20 points led all Bemidji freshman that season, and put him third in the Conference among all freshman.
During his freshman year with Bemidji, Moggach was named the CHA Rookie of the Week three separate times, once in December, once in January, and once in February.
"He brings a lot of accolades with him from college and juniors, no doubt", Ruskowski said. "If he can get in a groove like he has done in the past he could be very successful here in Laredo".
