Laredo, TX - The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Thursday that they have signed former MVP goaltender Ryan Gibb for the 2008-09 season. Gibb spent the last two seasons manning the net in Canada for the Queens University Golden Gaels (CIS).

Last season Gibb, a Toronto native, was honored with the OUA East Division Most Valuable Player award. Gibb finished first of all of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) teams with a sparkling .929 save percentage. To go along with his nation-leading save percentage, Gibb finished with an 11-7 record, to go along with a 2.86 goals against average, while posting one shutout. Gibb had 11 of the Gaels 13 victories last season.

"Ryan is an MVP goaltender, and when you are fortunate enough to sign an MVP goaltender, it's a good day", said Bucks head coach/GM Terry Ruskowski. "I saw him play, and was immediately impressed with him. He's quick, and he plays very big in net", Ruskowski continued.

Gibb, 5'11, 195 pounds, earned multiple honors in his two seasons with the Gaels. Including his MVP award last season, Gibb was named an OUA first-team All-Star, and in 2006-07 picked up the OUA East Rookie of the Year award, and was named a second team All-Star.

In his two seasons combined with Queens, Gibb played in 46 games, with a .922 save percentage, and a 3.12 goals against average while posting two shutouts, one in each season.

"Ryan is a steady goaltender who can steal games for us in net", Ruskowski said. "We are very happy to have him in Laredo, and hope he can continue the solid goaltending tradition we have had here".

Prior to his two years with Queens, Gibb played for five seasons in two junior leagues (OHL, OPJHL), with the OHL's Oshawa Generals, and the OPJHL's Coburg Cougars and Georgetown Raiders.

Gibb's signing does not mean that Ruskowski will not sign a more experienced goaltender to share the crease. "We are pursuing other goaltenders with more professional experience as well, including one of our goalies from last season", Ruskowski said. "Having Ryan in net will definitely be an asset for sure, we can't wait to see him in a Bucks uniform".
