Tempe, AZ - The Central Hockey League announced today that forward Darryl Smith of the Laredo Bucks has been named the Sher-Wood/TPS Central Hockey League Player of the Month for the month of January/2010.
Smith will receive a Sher-Wood/TPS portable DVD player, courtesy of Sher-Wood/TPS, to recognize his accomplishment.
Smith, 22, led the CHL with 10 goals during the month of January and finished with 16 points overall. The All-Star and 2009 CHL Rookie of the Year was a +3 in his 12 January games and two of his 10 goals served as game winners for his team. His recent goal scoring tear saw him record multiple-goal games four times including in three straight games (Jan. 20, Jan. 22 and Jan. 23) earning him Oakley CHL Player of the Week honors. For the season, the Thorold, Ontario native is second in the CHL with 23 goals and he sits with 41 total points.
Other players receiving consideration for the monthly award for January include Allen's Justin Bowers, Amarillo's Stuart MacRae, Arizona's Kyle Hood, Bossier-Shreveport's David Rutherford, Colorado's Kevin Ulanski and Jim Jackson, Corpus Christi's Chad Woollard, Laredo's Jeff Bes, Mississippi's Ryan Held, Missouri's Jeff Christian and Nick Sirota, Odessa's Mike Ramsay, Rapid City's Les Reaney, Texas' Jordan Cameron and Tulsa's Aaron Davis.
