Biloxi, MS - The Mississippi Sea Wolves
announced on Tuesday that they have acquired defenseman Justin Coutu
from the Johnstown Chiefs in exchange for future considerations, and
have traded forward Brandon Scero to the Utah Grizzlies in exchange for
forward Ryan Cruthers.
Coutu split last season between
Augusta Lynx and Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL. With the Lynx, Coutu
scored one goal and five assists in 30 games, and earned three assists
in 13 games with the Chiefs. A native of Maple Ridge, B.C., Coutu began
his professional career with the Fort Worth Brahmas of the Central Hockey
League in 2005-06, scoring 14 points (1g, 13a) in 43 games while
earning 73 penalty minutes. The following season, Coutu had eight goals
and 10 assists for 18 points with the Muskegon Fury of the now-defunct
United Hockey League, where he was a teammate of Sea Wolves forward
Chase Trull.
"Justin Coutu moves the puck very well and
plays a physical role on the ice," said Sea Wolves head coach Steffon
Walby. "He will round out our defensive corps nicely."
