Charlotte, NC - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced goaltender Bill Zaniboni of the Mississippi Surge is the Sher-Wood SPHL Player of the Week for January 18-January 24.
Zaniboni, a third-year pro from Plymouth, MA, went 2-0-0 for the week with a 1.46 goals against average and a.955 save percentage.
On Thursday against Pensacola, Zaniboni recorded just the ninth 1-0 shutout in SPHL history and the first shutout of his professional career by stopping all 25 Ice Flyers' shots in the win. Zaniboni came back the next night and stopped 40 of 43 shots, including 18 in the first period, as the Surge swept the home-and-home series with a 403 overtime win over Pensacola.
Zaniboni, who played his collegiate hockey at Northern Michigan University, currently ranks second in the SPHL with a 2.83 goals-against-average.
