Rio Rancho, NM - Scorpions head coach Randy Murphy has re-signed All-Star goaltender Andrew Martin for the upcoming season. Martin had a career year last season in a Scorpions jersey.

Martin came to the Scorpions, his third in the professional ranks, after stops in Bossier-Shreveport, Texas and Wichita. The Plano, Tex. native finished the 2007-08 campaign with a 19-12-2 record and a 3.12 goals against average. Both his win total and 34 games played set new career highs.

"I am excited to come back to a great organization and group of players, said Martin. "Losing the way we did last year has only made me hungrier to help this team and I am going to use that motivation throughout the coming season. I am going to build of the success I had last season personally, and plan to elevate my game to the next level this season"

Fans inside the Santa Ana Star Center knew early in the season their goalie could be something special. On November 3rd, Martin made 31 saves en route to his first career shutout in a 10-0 victory against Rocky Mountain.

"Andrew is coming off an all-star season and expect him to build on that," said Murphy. "We are looking forward to him elevating his game to the next level because he showed signs of being an elite goaltender at this level."

After a slow start to the season, Martin racked up six straight victories from December 31st-January 19th. He also grabbed three consecutive wins in early February, including a shutout against Austin.

Martin shines at the CHL All-Star Game. With his spectacular first half, Martin was named to the CHL Southern Conference All-Star team and shined in the third period. The 6'1" backstop shut down the Northern Conference with 22 saves on 23 shots, getting credit for the win.
