Rio Rancho, NM - Another familiar face is returning to New Mexico as head coach Randy Murphy has re-signed Mitch Stephens for the 2008-09 season. Stephens will look to "unleash the fury" for his second season in a Scorpions jersey.

Stephens arrived in New Mexico is early November and made an immediate impact. He scored at least one point in 12 of his first 14 professional games. The center finished last season with 41 points (17G, 24A) in just 52 games.

In the post season Stephens really shined. The Forrest, Manitoba native scored eight points in six playoff games.

"Mitch really came on in the second half and playoffs for our team," said Murphy. "I am looking for him to take the next step this season and become one of the top offensive players on our team and throughout the CHL."

A tall and athletic player at 6'2" and 175 lbs., Stephens has one of the better shots at this level, something Murphy wants to see more of this season.

"I look forward to seeing Mitch round out his game," said Murphy. "I think he has one of the most underrated shots and feel if he uses it more he will elevate his game to that next level.
