Phoenix, AZ - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, announced today that center Andrew Desjardins has agreed to terms on a contract for the 2008-09 season.
Desjardins, 21, tallied 22 goals, 59 points, and 112 penalty minutes, and finished with a plus-21 rating in 64 games with the Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League during the 2007-08 season. The Lively, Ontario native and second-year professional was a finalist for the 2007-08 CHL Rookie of the Year Award and helped Laredo make their sixth consecutive trip to the Southern Conference Finals before losing to eventual President's Cup Champion Arizona.
Desjardins totaled 48 goals, 65 assists, and 113 points in 254 games over four seasons with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League. He attended training camp with the Los Angeles King in 2004, and was ranked in 2006 as one of the top-10 undrafted prospects among overage junior skaters by International Scouting Service.
"Andrew is a strong two-way centerman who is coming off a solid rookie season in the CHL," said RoadRunners Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Church. "We expect him to continue to develop and be a regular contributor to our everyday line-up."
