Phoenix, AZ - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks
and the Worcester Sharks, announced today that veteran goaltender Paulo
Colaiacovo has agreed to terms on a contract for the upcoming 2008-09
season.
Colaiacovo, 25, backstopped the Tilburg Trappers of
the Dutch Super League to one of their greatest seasons in 2007-08 as
the Trappers finished 30-6-0 and captured their 13th Dutch National
Championship along with the 2008 Dutch Cup Championship and the 2008
European Super Cup Championship. The Etobicoke, Ontario native and
five-year professional appeared in 47 games and sported a 2.75 goals
against average.
Colaiacovo went 43-17-5 in 67 games from 2004-07 with the Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey
League with a 2.55 goals against average and a .916% save percentage
over that period. He helped lead the Eagles to their first championship
in 2004-05 going 4-0 in the President's Cup Playoffs and registering a
1.00 goals against average and a .962% save percentage. Colaiacovo also
helped the Eagles capture a second President's Cup in 2007.
Colaiacovo was the 2004 Ontario Hockey League Goaltender of the Year. His twin brother, Carlo, is a defenseman with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Colaiacovo
is the tenth player to agree to terms with the RoadRunners for the
2008-09 season joining forwards Mitch Carefoot, Wes Clark, Andrew
Desjardins, Bryan Esner, Gino Guyer, James McEwan, Peder Skinner and
Chris Stevens, and defenseman Matt Burke.
Phoenix will play a two-game pre-season series against the Florida Everblades Oct. 10-11 at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla.
