Port Huron, MI - Port Huron Icehawks defenseman Mike Gershon was named International Hockey League Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 3, the league announced today.
Gershon had the best week of his rookie season, recording five points on two goals and three assists with a plus three rating. He kicked off Week 12 with an assist in Tuesday's win over Quad City. On Saturday, he netted the game winning goal and dished out two assists in the Icehawks 7-2 win over the Muskegon Lumberjacks. He followed that up with another goal on Sunday in Dayton.
The 25-year old native of Sparta, New Jersey is ranked in the IHL top ten in points among both rookies and defensemen with 16 points (4g, 12a). The honor is his second this season. He was also named IHL Rookie of the Week in Week 10.
