Port Huron, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks have added size and toughness with the signings of forwards Jason Chafe and Paul Yovanic to contracts for the 2008-09 season. Per team policy, details of the deals were not disclosed.

"We wanted to get bigger and tougher this season," Head Coach and General Manager Stan Drulia said. "Both of these players do not back down and give us some needed grit."

Chafe (5-11, 200 lbs) comes to the Icehawks after three seasons with the Amarillo Gorillas in the Central Hockey League. Last season the tough center dished out 22 points (10g, 12a) in 39 games. In the 2006-07 season, he tallied 38 points (13g, 25a) and 113 penalty minutes in 61 games with the team. Prior to turning professional with the Gorillas, he played four years of collegiate hockey at the Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, NY) in the NCAA and averaged 23 points per season.

The 27-year old Stoney Creek, Ontario native was put in contact with Drulia last summer through Icehawks and former Gorilllas teammates Mark DeSantis, Brent Hughes and Rich Hansen.

"My former teammates only had great things to say about Stan and the Port Huron organization and I'm eager to get started for the season," Chafe said. "I am very excited to play in Port Huron and hopefully we can capture the championship this year."

Yovanic (6-3, 220 lbs) is a rookie left wing who split time last season between three junior league teams, the Sorel-Tracy Mission (LNAH), Valley Forge Freedom (MAHL), and Twin City Cyclones (SPHL), and also played two games with the Muskegon Fury. He amassed 34 penalty minutes in seven total games. In the 2006-07 season, he played with the NAHL Texas Tornado and recorded 153 penalty minutes in 40 games.

The 20-year old Highland, MI native also played junior hockey with the OHL Kitchener Rangers (2004-05) and the Drummondville Voltiguer in the QMJHL (2005-06).
