Port Huron, MI - Stan Drulia, head coach and general manager of the Port Huron Icehawks, announced that the team has signed defenseman Jamie Lovell. Per team policy, details of the contract were not disclosed.

Lovell (6-0, 190 lbs) joined the Icehawks in October just prior to the 2007-08 season opener. The offensive-minded defenseman led the team in defensive scoring during the regular season, turning in career bests in goals (8), assists (23) and points (31).

He also helped carry the team through the International Hockey League Playoffs with nine points (3g, 6a) in twelve post-season games, which tied him for third on the team in playoff scoring. His playoff goals included an overtime tally that secured the Icehawks victory over the Fort Wayne Komets in game two of the Turner Cup Finals.

"We ended last season so strong, but losing the way we did kind of left a bitter taste in my mouth," said Lovell, who is headed to Switzerland to teach at his family's swimming and tennis camp this summer. "Towards the end of the season, the fans started coming out and it was a fun place to play and you wanted to come to the rink every day. Hopefully we can continue that next season and finish our unfinished business."

The 25-year old Elora, Ontario native is entering his fifth professional season. He came to the Icehawks after stints with several teams in the Central Hockey League, including the Odessa Jackalopes, Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, and the Tulsa Oilers. He also played four years of collegiate hockey at the University of Guelph and three seasons of junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League.

"Jamie provided us with some big goals throughout the year and was a big part of our power play unit," Drulia said. "He is a solid defenseman and will also be counted on to again provide offense for us. He comes to the rink well-prepared and is a true professional."

Lovell is the fourth player from last year's team to resign with the Icehawks thus far. He joins forwards Tab Lardner and Jeff Zehr and goalie Larry Sterling on the 2008-09 roster.
