Two Icehawks Take Home Weekly Awards

Port Huron, MI - Two Port Huron Icehawks players received weekly awards from the International Hockey League, for the week ending Sunday, December 20, the league announced today. Left wing Mickael Bedard was named Player of the Week and defenseman Mike Gershon received Rookie of the Week honors.

Bedard exploded in Week Ten, scoring five goals and dishing out one assist, going plus-four in three games played. He had two goals, including one on the power play in the Icehawks 6-1 win over Flint Tuesday and scored two more goals on Friday versus Flint. He also knocked in the game-winning goal in the Icehawks 5-2 win over Dayton on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Montreal, Quebec native continues to light up the scoring column, leading all rookies in points (24), goals (12) and assists (12). Bedard is also second on the Icehawks roster in scoring, just two points behind Nick Lindberg, who leads the team with 26 points.

Gershon finished the week dishing out four assists in three games with a plus-four rating. It was the most productive week of the rookie defenseman's season so far. Two of Gershon's assists came on the Icehawks power play, giving him his first points on the man advantage.

The 25-year-old Sparta, New Jersey native currently has nine points (2 goals, 7 assists) in 22 games played with a plus-seven rating. His plus-seven ranks him third among IHL rookie defenseman and fifth overall among rookies.
