Rush Adds Second Player

Stephen Cooke of Stirling, Ontario has signed a professional contract with Rapid City Rush. Cooke joins the Rush after spending the past four years as part of the Men's Varsity Hockey Panthers at the University of Prince Edwards Island where he played in over 100 games amassing totals of 23 goals, 46 assists for 69 points.
"Stephen is a very good two-way hockey player with great speed," said Head Coach Joe Ferras. "He is a player that will be able to put points on the board but also a player that will be able to shut down other teams top lines."
"I was extremely excited to learn that I was going to have an opportunity to play for the Rush," said Rapid City Rush Stephen Cooke.
"I am thrilled to have the chance to continue my hockey career and at the same time be part of an exciting new challenge as the Rush enters their inaugural season. I will bring with me a lot of heart, dedication, hard work ethic and the desire to win." Cooke played a variety of roles for the Panthers over his four year college career including power player and penalty kill.
He was one of the top face-off men in the Atlantic College Hockey Division averaging over 60% nightly on draws. Cooke is also known for his exceptional speed on the ice and his great physical condition.
"Stephen has been an integral part of our program over the last four years. He is a player that is extremely well-liked by his teammates and coaches.
Stephen is a great guy who expects a lot from himself and does his best everyday to achieve that," said UPEI Athletics Dylan Taylor. Cooke, who played in the OHL for four years, first with Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and then with Belleville, lists his family as his greatest athletic influence.
Cooke's older brother Matt has played over 550 games in the National Hockey League, the majority of which was with the Vancouver Canucks finished off the 2007-08 season as a member of the Washington Capitals after being traded.
"Stephen has had a great college career and we are very happy to have him begin his pro career in Rapid City", said Ferras. "He is a high character kid who will show up and compete every night."
