North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey
League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League announced
today the signing of center Paul Kelly for the 2008-09 season. In
keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Kelly,
28, spent last year in the Central Hockey League with the Tulsa Oilers
where he has his best offensive year as a professional finishing fourth
on the team in points with 53 (26g, 27a) in 62 games. Prior to his time
in Tulsa, Kelly split time between the Dayton Bombers and Augusta Lynx
of the ECHL. In those two years he tallied 89 points (42g, 47a) in 144
regular season games.
"Paul adds both experience and
size to our front line," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "He's a proven
playoff performer from his time with Dayton, and we look forward to his
contributions this season."
The West Peabody, MA native
finished fourth in playoff points in the ECHL when the 2006-07 Dayton
Bombers made it to the Kelly Cup Finals. In his 22 playoff games, Kelly
had 20 points (10g, 10a).
Prior to turning
professional, the 6-foot 2-inch, 230-pound center spent two years at
SUNY-Plattsburgh where he finished with 63 points (34g, 29a) in 57
games.
