North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League announced today the signing of center Paul Kelly for the 2008-09 season. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Kelly, 28, spent last year in the Central Hockey League with the Tulsa Oilers where he has his best offensive year as a professional finishing fourth on the team in points with 53 (26g, 27a) in 62 games. Prior to his time in Tulsa, Kelly split time between the Dayton Bombers and Augusta Lynx of the ECHL. In those two years he tallied 89 points (42g, 47a) in 144 regular season games.

"Paul adds both experience and size to our front line," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "He's a proven playoff performer from his time with Dayton, and we look forward to his contributions this season."

The West Peabody, MA native finished fourth in playoff points in the ECHL when the 2006-07 Dayton Bombers made it to the Kelly Cup Finals. In his 22 playoff games, Kelly had 20 points (10g, 10a).

Prior to turning professional, the 6-foot 2-inch, 230-pound center spent two years at SUNY-Plattsburgh where he finished with 63 points (34g, 29a) in 57 games.
