Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that they have signed defenseman Mike Gabinet to a standard American Hockey League contract.
Gabinet appeared in 19 games with the Falcons during the 2007-08 season collecting three assists and 10 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta originally joined Springfield last year on February 6, 2008 when he signed a Professional Tryout Agreement after he started the season with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL. In 23 games with the Stingrays during the 2007-08 campaign, he collected two goals and 12 assists for 14 points and 18 penalty minutes.
Gabinet will be entering his fifth professional season after playing his college hockey with the University of Nebraska-Omaha from 2000-2004. Gabinet was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the eighth round (237rd overall) in the 2001 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
