Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have re-signed center Jacob Dietrich for the 2008-09 season.

The Deloraine, Manitoba native began his professional career at the end of last season with Victoria after finishing his four-year WHL career with the Portland Winter Hawks.

Dietrich participated in nine regular season games for the Salmon Kings, and during that span he collected 5 points (2g-3a) with no penalty minutes. In eight playoff games for Victoria he chipped in with 2 goals and 2 assists while collecting two minutes in penalties.

“I was extremely impressed with Jacob's play last season,” General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison said. “I believe him to be an AHL calibre player, and we are very happy that he has chosen to play in Victoria until he attains the next level in his career.”

The 2008-09 season will mark the 6'1”, 202lbs Dietrich's first full professional season. He made his pro debut on March 19, 2008 against the Utah Grizzlies in a 7-3 win. Two nights later, in only his second professional game, he notched his first two goals en route to a three-point night in a 4-0 win versus the Grizzlies.

Dietrich spent time with three teams (Moose Jaw, Lethbridge and Portland) during his WHL career. In his four seasons he amassed 36 goals and 17 assists for 53 points with 189 penalty minutes in 270 games.

Last season in Portland, Dietrich was not only named the team captain, but also was the recipient of the Bill Anderson Memorial Trophy that is awarded annually to the Winter Hawk player that best displays the qualities of ability and character.
