Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have signed defensemen Jeremy Swanson for the 2008-09 season.

The 6'0”, 208 lbs Swanson played for both the Wheeling Nailers and Kelly Cup Champion Cincinnati Cyclones last season. He was also momentarily the property of the Columbia Inferno during the 2007-08 season. Swanson was dealt just prior to the trade deadline from Wheeling to Columbia. While in Wheeling, he played in 35 games collecting six points (1g-5a) and 42 minutes in penalties. He then played in 13 regular season games for Cincinnati collecting 16 minutes in penalties. During the Cyclones Kelly Cup championship run he played in 15 games collecting one goal and 15 minutes in penalties.

“Jeremy is a stay at home defensive defenseman who will play with a physical edge,” General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison said. “He brings with him both playoff and championship experience that will be of great benefit to our organization.”

The Red Rock, ON native is entering his fourth professional season. He has played in 180 games with stints in San Antonio (AHL), Texas (ECHL), Florida (ECHL), Rochester (AHL), Wheeling (ECHL) and Cincinnati (ECHL). Swanson was selected in the 6th Round (#169 overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers.

Prior to turning pro, Swanson spent four years in the OHL. His rookie season was spent with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds before moving to the Barrie Colts for his final three seasons. During his junior career Swanson notched 22 goals and 84 assists for 106 points with 387 penalty minutes in 255 games.
