Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have reassigned right wing Aaron Boogaard to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), it was announced on Friday.
Boogaard, 23, appeared in 21 games with the Penguins this season, posting one goal and 65 penalty minutes. His goal came in the Penguins- first road game of the season on October 16th at Binghamton, and stood up as the game-winner.
Boogaard scored his first AHL goal on December 30, 2008 vs. Philadelphia, and went on to post three points (2+1) and 112 penalty minutes in 41 appearances as a member of the Penguins last season. He made his AHL debut with the Penguins on October 20, 2007 and appeared in two AHL contests. He spent a majority of the 2007-08 season with the Nailers, where he recorded 15 points (6+9) and 105 penalty minutes in 58 games.
Boogaard appeared in a total of 273 games in his junior career between Calgary and Tri-City (WHL), posting 54 points (26+28) and 589 penalty minutes. He is the younger brother of the Minnesota Wild-s Derek Boogaard.
The 6-1, 215-lb native of Regina, Saskatchewan was signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins as a free agent on April 23, 2007, and was originally selected by the Minnesota Wild in the sixth round (175th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
