Wheeling, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the proud affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have signed defensemen Cliff Loya ,it was announced today by the team. As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed.
Loya, 27, scored 17 points (2 goals, 15 assists) in 32 games last season while playing for Asiago HC in Italy. Loya also posted 52 penalty minutes.
"Cliff was an important part of our success in his 2 seasons here, so we are excited to have him back playing for the Nailers." Said Jim Brooks.
The 6-2, 200 pound defenseman spent two seasons previously with the Nailers in 2004-05 and 2005-06 posting 30 points with 6 goals and 24 assists. Loya, a native of Pittsburgh, played four seasons at the University of Maine and was the seventh round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks (207th overall) in the 2000 NHL entry draft.
