I think you will see an announcment about next season within a month. This much I will say the EPHL will be around for the 2009-10 season

I have a feeling the New Hampshire Freeze are definitely going to be playing in the 2009-2010 season. They've been dormant for the season we are in now and were going to play too, but decided not to.

Doug Yasika and Rafik Papalian wanted EPHL hockey. They are no longer associated with that rink. The way it reads is Rafik was leasing the building from the Linehans and trying to find a way to increase sales to keep his lease.

"Exeter Ice House President Doug Yasika said he and co-owner Rafik Papalian were looking to bring something bigger to the business than just youth hockey."

Karen & Bill Linehan Owner

No mention of Rafik or Doug.

i wouldn't be worrying about next season if i were any of these teams. if they don't start drawing in any of the cities besides danbury there might not be a next season. perhaps instead of announcements about what will happen next season they can work on why only 200 people come out for rockhoppers games and what they can do to get more people to come out.

i think there is more than 200 people that come out but i will say the rockhoppers due have a big fan base but not a good percent of them come out to the games

It all comes down to how much these owners are willing to lose. As I said in another post New Hampshire more than likely will not have a team next season. HV will be gone. Pick up one new team and it's another 4 team season which to me gets very boring. If the EPHL is going to be here next season they have ALOT of work to do or we wont see next season.

massachusetts might be in the picture, i hear cape cod is a possibility. i think that area would be grea tplace. big hockey following,

not much around with in 1-1 1/2 hour drive.

single A hockey might be a great fit there

I do not have a link, but I also heard some rumblings about another team entering the league from Cape Cod. Until this is officially announced, I guess this remains heresay.

You are correct. Any place that has ice is a "possibility", but they doesn't mean they'll field a team. Lets stick to the fact, folks. Post only what we can prove.

when i go to a movie they don't ask me start the movie and serve popcorn because they're understaffed. it is expected when you start a business that you understand what you need to do and you do it no matter what.

LOL. Seriously, I really did laugh out loud on that one.

I too am tired of seeing "low budget" as an excuse, rather than the problem, and that pertains to a lot more of Single-A hockey than the Rockhoppers.

Advances are being made; slowly.

Exactly.
You can't expect the attendance to go from sub-par to back-to-back-to-back sell outs in one night.

I think the first 2 months of the league have been very good and the organizations are learning from past mistakes. The next few months will tell whether or not they have learned enough. From what I've seen lately, they have been moving in a good direction.

Boston suburbs, perhaps? I don't think Cape Cod has a suitable arena.

Cape Cod did have teams in the 60s-70s in the old EHL.(Cubs, Codders). They played at the Cape Cod Coliseum which sat 5000. I think it's a warehouse now. I don't know of any other arena in the arena that seats the 2-3k the league is looking for. A few 500 seaters in the area though.

A brand new 1,500 seat rink is scheduled to open in Hyannis this summer.

1,500 is a little small. There are plenty of legit buildings in the area. Only way 1500 works is if the building owns the team.

1,800 seat Wallace Civic Center might be ok. http://www.sharksahl.com/photogallery.asp there is photos of the building under "Skate With The Sharks 10-20-08 Fitchburg".

The arena hosted an AHL double header on October 5th.

I think 1,500 would be fine for where the EPHL is. It does hold an additional 300 standees, so the total capacity is 1,800.

I just received an email from Jim Riggs, the EPHL commissioner:

Richard:

Thank you for your email and for your interest in the EPHL.

We expect to announce the new team in Massachusetts by mid-January. Per
the request of the new ownership group, they would like to make the
announcement so we cannot unveil the location until after their
announcement. I understand that they are working on a name & logo at
this time.

Please check back at www.ephl.com later this month for additional
information on the team.

Regards,

Jim Riggs
