I alluded to this in my Chicago Hounds post...it has also been mentioned on the AAHA boards.

MWHL Prepares for 2009-2010 Inaugural Season

For Immediate Release-

The Midwest Hockey League announced it is moving the start of its inaugural season of play for a 2009-2010 inaugural season start. After several weeks of discussions and board meetings, it was decided that the best interest of the MWHL and its teams to continue preparing for an excellent inaugural season in 2009-2010.

“The Midwest Hockey League staff and franchises have agreed to continue to moving forward as a business. But in giving franchises another year to secure their dealings, we only feel that it will make the league stronger,” says MWHL President Wade Stuckey. “We followed as many avenues as were prudent. We have a number of locations and venues being negotiated with currently. We will be stronger by staying the course than we would have been to abbreviate our efforts and ideals, just to get on the ice this season. Despite a valiant effort by team owners, we reached a point that it was in the best interest to postpone the inaugural season. The last thing we want is for any member organization to tarnish the reputations of the venues, communities and fans by proceeding forward this season half haphazardly.”

Complicating matters was the apparent, flagrant tampering with the progression of the league, by outside entities. “The MWHL and its teams believe in protecting the integrity of the sport and playing the season. Moving forward, just to play regardless of equity amongst organizations, was not the answer to the Board of Governors,” added Stuckey. Everyone remaining with the organization has actual hockey experience, in one form or another.

“The Board of Governors decided this would make the league stronger and bring stability with several other potential franchises looking to play next season,” President Wade Stuckey continued. “Moving forward with a four team organization, simply to put a product on the ice, decidedly was not the way to go,” said Stuckey. “It was agreed upon by every member of the Board of Governors.” The MWHL will require any potential team owner(s) to fill out a qualification report and satisfy the necessary requirements. If owners do not meet the requirements, or if disqualifying information is discovered, they cannot be awarded a franchise.

The MWHL is continuing to work hard at becoming a strong and respectful Single “A” Hockey League. Announcements will be forthcoming.

So if Indianapolis still comes in, where else can the MWHL go? Chicago could fit, but at least the AAHA has more than one functioning team. They really don't seem to have a ton of options unless the AAHA collapses.

Good gosh - will a sharpened hockey stick suffice for a stake to drive through the heart of a walking dead zombie hockey league?

I guess they should get points for persistance.........
