Thought I'd start a new thread in the rumors section, lest the Biloxi thread get too far derailed.

...Combs advised that the SPHL is in active discussions with prospective ownership in Pensacola, Florida and other cities and expects to provide information on additional expansion over the next few weeks.

Combs stated that “while there is still work to be accomplished the Board of Governors is committed to expansion within our league’s geographical footprint within a time frame that allows new members the lead time to prepare for the
2009-10 season.

Let's speculate away! The hot talk was that Lafayette was next on the expansion list; there was also some chatter about Winston-Salem (still!!), and speaking of which we still don't know what will become of the Cyclones...

Hmmm, an 8-team SPHL sounds good to me!

Fayetteville
Knoxville
Huntsville
Columbus
Winston-Salem
Pensacola
Biloxi
Lafayette

I could live with that.

With the footprint of the SPHL seeming going southwest I might be a good idea to try for eight team. If they only have six it's too small to have two division and really hurt any profitability these teams could have, even possibly sending some in the red...

Now if you could have eight teams a two division league would work:

East Divison

Fayetteville
Knoxville
Columbus
Winston-Salem

West Division

Pensacola
Huntsville
Biloxi
Lafeyette

In my opinion it would be the only way the SPHL is going to be able to field profitable teams and keep costs down. Remember, the SPHL was founded to have reasonable operating costs...
