Everyone knows that the phrase "Calder Cup Finals" is ITB short-hand for Kalamazoo jumping to the ECHL. The AHL website routinely does reporting on unsubstantiated rumors about IHL teams moving over to other leagues that aren't the AHL.

Apparently it was up all day. But's it's certainly gone now!!!

Frankly, K-zoo in the ECHL would be a stretch in my opinion. Yes, the ECHL North would love to have some more teams to shore themselves up, but unless the IHL were to fold, I can't see K-zoo being the single market that would defect to the "enemy" -- they'd be creating longer travel distances and higher costs just within the Northern division.

That's even discounting the ECHL's recent reluctance to bring in teams at the last minute. Elmira was an exception, but weren't they announced as ECHL long before this part of the silly season?

As a rumor, I don't think I'd even put it on the DPR at Brown, were I still writing that column.

I think it's more along the lines of they have a plan B but someone opened their mouth when they didn't need to say anything (someone in the ticket office). I wouldn't blame them for having a plan B but unless Flint does go dark and Dayton isn't approved into the league, I really don't think there's anything to worry about.

As of right now, IMO, there are too many costs for Kalamazoo to join the ECHL solo.

I respect your post but that doesn't really mean squat. Look at abbotsford new AHL team. They are 24 hours away from the closest team.

If the ECHL said hey we are going to try get some more teams in your area like qc bloomington chicago and peoria next year are you willing to jump for one year?

Who knows really. I personally am perplexed on why they would jump. I always thought that Kzoo was on pretty good grounds with the rest of the league.
