Rumor has it the entire Iowa Chops staff was laid off today. I can find nothing to verify this but the rumor was the talk of the Bucs invite camp today. Looks like the lights just went out on AHL Hockey as we knew it in Des Moines

That's kinda sad news for the staff if it's true....and not the kind of thing that newspapers publish quickly. Makes sense that it would happen on a Friday afternoon.

Thought Marty might have it, but no. However, what's there (http://www.62andeven.com/archives/2896) is pretty good!!!

Wow, I feel for all the Chops/Stars fans out there. It really sucks losing your team, but even worse when the owners are really putting the screws to you. I hope the AHL will stay in Des Moines and someday thrive. I really enjoy the arena, minus the mustard throwing fans. :grin:

I can validate the rumor. Two people, Steve Nitzel (President) and Alex Kyrias (Vice-President, Communications & Broadcasting) remain with the team. I talked to Alex this morning.

i actually think its kinda funny that iowa is losing there team, at the last game all these fans were knocking on quad city for not having a team next season... guess what, they wont have one either haha!!

on a serious note though, i know they have some decent fans and it sucks that they are losing their team as well. we know what they are going through and its not a fun situiation sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear whats going on. hopefully in the mean time they will have something worked out to join the ihl or another league next season so they dont lose hockey all together.

Not a surprise Kyrias kept his job...
